Zed’s Spring Flounder tournament out of Wachapreague is rapidly coming to a close, with the scales closing at 3 p.m.
There’s no need to go high tech in these shallow waters, as fish readily take jigs and squid-minnow sandwiches on simple bottom rigs. As usual, the action is best in the backwater sloughs along the coastal side of the Eastern shore’s barrier islands. We can probably thank a mild winter for keeping flatties closer to home. Flounder action is heating up with the weather and catches have been slightly up for this time of year from previous years.
